Week of October 24th

School children pledging allegiance to the flag, weeks before their deportation.
What's coming up this week?
We will continue to present our identity boxes on Monday and Tuesday (or longer if necessary). I loved everything we saw on Friday and can't wait to learn more about the members our class!
Also on Monday, a surprise reading quiz on Snow Falling (how's that for a sneak peak?) and discussion of the reading. We will continue to talk about the novel this week, and on Thursday or Friday we'll go and check out some Ansel Adams photographs of Manzanar and do a little creative writing.
And then at the end of this week / beginning of the next ... the movies!
Homework: Plan to finish reading Snow Falling by Friday.
If you are taking this class at the honors level, you will also begin reading When the Emperor Was Divine this week. The first reading assignment (to page 48) is due next Monday, along with a post to our class blog. The rest of the book will be due the following Monday, with a second post. We'll discuss the details at length ... don't panic, I read this book in two nights AND you're going to love it.
